Finished My "DOT DOROTHY" for Friday Post 1

Just finished up the measuring tape... a soft orange dotty print.... Paper-pieced Hat Lady.... I just might try to turn her lips upward into a smile next time.  She is a 10" block... with additional borders...  !!!

Thanks - fellow blog quilters.... Such a treat to participate in the Dot-to-Dot QAL!
I wish my camera had depth and greater brightness to the orange... I used a batik for flesh coloring of the skin.... all shades of orange for the eyes, hair and lipstick.... I love the accuracy and detail of paper-piecing... just a few fun hours of creative work!!

. . . and yes (ps) it is my hand-quilted cathedral quilt on the guest bed!

  9. What an amazing portrait! It looks beautiful. I am completely in awe of the cathedral quilt too. That must have taken some time (since I tend to have to make 5 blocks to get 1 that will actually work....). Amazing!

  37. Bev- Love your Dot Dorothy block-she reminds me of a "Flapper" from the 20's. The orange is bright and cheery. I read about your background and I have suggestion for you. With your cultural background, it would be great to create patterns around the theme of hats, since women of African-American descent are known for their beautiful hats. It would be a great way to document this lovely tradition/practice that used to be more common in all cultures but has declined over the years and it seems that only your "sisters" have carried on such a lovely practice. I can recall my grandmother loved hats, but unfortunately I don't know what happened to them. Thanks for sharing, and I'll be waiting to see great things from you from California.
