There is a new quilting room....... for B'Quiltin

The truth of the matter is that these wonderful cherry-wood bookshelves will stay in the KIDZ ROOM.   That is the switch I pulled... via making the inner hallway room for mee-maw's babies.  I moved the sewing machine, cutting board and design board and fabric into the front hall room.   It's cooler in winter-time and hotter with a full length window in the summer-time.   SAY YE, HEAR YE.... I pulled up the old rug... and put down a brand new wood/laminate floor!

So, again,,, the kids room will still house the very, very neatly stacked 3/4+++ yardage fabric as above. I've landed two sizes out of the big boxes.....  All other scraps and projects will be at hand in Bquiltin's new home!

I read about buying a special white/cut board.... but is there anything wrong with cutting up a card-board box>>>??? Certainly, what harm can it do to my fabric???

I'll keep an eye on it...... my imagination thinks of bugs and decay..???

In the crazy quilt of life, I'm glad you're in my block of friends.

Inspiration from Faith Ringgold

by Faith Ringgold (quoted).

Our Ancestors

An international Save The Children Meeting was held today in New York City. A woman from the Congo Region in Africa and a man from Scandinavia shared the stage to explain that their children had adopted a sedentary lifestyle and had forgotten how to play and that something must be done or life as we know it will cease. The crowd roared with unbridled enthusiasm. Toy stores, playgrounds, amusement parks and schools all over the world have shut down. Children have taken to their beds, like old people, complaining of headaches, backaches, muscle pains, dizziness and refused to move without a wheelchair. A man just back from the war in the Middle East said “They need the help of our ancestors, they would have the children and all of us laughing in no time. They had love and hope. All we have is hatred violence and war.”

Order your copy of The Skin Quilt Project!

The Skin Quilt Project DVD is ready for purchase! This ground-breaking documentary  features scholars, writers, and quilters from across the country, who discuss issues of skin-color politics in the African-American community. Through the stories of African-American quilters we are able to understand how the fellowship and practice of quilting has enriched peoples lives, and given them a sense of pride in their cultural heritage. The Skin Quilt Project was an official selection for the 2010 International Black Women’s Film Festival in October 2010.  Order your copy today!

I loves the look and lines on Big Mama's face.... intimately knowing how she feels

The Skin Quilt Project is a documentary that explores colorism in the African-American community. The film addresses this complex issue through the stories of African-American quilters, and the tradition of an artform that celebrates its culture. The quilters speak of the influence of the African-American quilting tradition as a tool for encouraging an appreciation in the African-American cultural heritage.
Colorism has been a long disputed issue within the African-American community, however, filmmaker Lauren Cross speculates that African-American quilters are much more grounded in their African roots. As Quilt historian Carolyn Mazloomi explains, African-American quilters "are joined by the thread of a needle” in which the quilting medium leaves no room for “color issues.”

As many African-American quilters come from families who have passed down quilting techniques to their children and grandchildren, today’s quilters represent African-American men and women who have become concerned with telling the story of their cultural heritage. In The Skin Quilt Project, the quilters tell the story of skin color politics in African-American culture, yet realizing the power of quilting to empower self-confidence in their community.

About the Artist:

Lauren Cross is a writer, activist, and interdisciplinary artist working in mixed media, photography, media arts, and installation art. Her current research interests include the issues of colorism and the “color complex” within the African American community, and her current work addresses ideals of beauty, race, and skin complexion in media imagery. She is also the founder and editor of CVAAD Projects( www.cvaad.com), an online blog and resource for contemporary visual art of the African diaspora. She received her BA in Art, Design, and Media from Richmond, The American International University in London, England, and MFA in Visual Arts from the Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University, Cambridge, MA.

Such a Lovely Autumn Day ....

I spent the lunch (till 2:30pm) hour with quiltin friends.....
Two girlfriends along with Bill Clinton.... a stitchin' the cathedral window quilt!
He (a quilter's husband)  knows when she meets another quilter there’ll be fast and furious talkin’—
And at a quilt show there’ll be lots of scribbling and gawkin’.
He thinks of quilt-mania as a kind of creative affliction—
That can only be controlled by regular doses of stitchin’.
He knows she quilts for enjoyment, not for money,
Cuz she does quilts that are traditional, modern and some just plain funny!

Above, machine stitchin' the cathedral Window !!!

 Show n Tell.... a finished T-Shirt quilt!

I can't be forgiven...... as I drive away from the quiltin' excursion....
my quiltin' fix

It's with love and lots o' joy
that the front and back seat of my car holds my treasures ~ dear!
