Just finished up the measuring tape... a soft orange dotty print.... Paper-pieced Hat Lady.... I just might try to turn her lips upward into a smile next time. She is a 10" block... with additional borders... !!!
Thanks - fellow blog quilters.... Such a treat to participate in the Dot-to-Dot QAL!
I wish my camera had depth and greater brightness to the orange... I used a batik for flesh coloring of the skin.... all shades of orange for the eyes, hair and lipstick.... I love the accuracy and detail of paper-piecing... just a few fun hours of creative work!!
. . . and yes (ps) it is my hand-quilted cathedral quilt on the guest bed!

Wow that is impressive, thanks for sharing it with us all!
What an amazing portrait! It looks beautiful. I am completely in awe of the cathedral quilt too. That must have taken some time (since I tend to have to make 5 blocks to get 1 that will actually work....). Amazing!

Dot Dorothy is fantastic - I didn't even recognize it as that American Jane fabric. Great use of it. Love the orange & the ruler.
That is lovely. You did a beautiful job on her.

i love your blocks
That's amazing-well done!
Bev- Love your Dot Dorothy block-she reminds me of a "Flapper" from the 20's. The orange is bright and cheery. I read about your background and I have suggestion for you. With your cultural background, it would be great to create patterns around the theme of hats, since women of African-American descent are known for their beautiful hats. It would be a great way to document this lovely tradition/practice that used to be more common in all cultures but has declined over the years and it seems that only your "sisters" have carried on such a lovely practice. I can recall my grandmother loved hats, but unfortunately I don't know what happened to them. Thanks for sharing, and I'll be waiting to see great things from you from California.
Trabalho brilhante,muito sofisticado,parabéns.Nova seguidora no GFC e brasileira.Abraços.
"Dot Dorothy" is gorgeous! Thanks for joining in the hop and sharing her with us.
Took a peek at your Compass Quilt... OH, MY! Very beautiful!
I'm a new follower to your blog.
Yes, she does look like a flapper. Isn't it amazing how the background colour in a photo can change the colour of the block. GReat paper piecing. I also love your cathedral windows quilt.
Terrific orange dotty lady in her marvy hat!
the Cathedral Window is outstanding, too!
I love your block! I'm one of those people who really like orange.
Oh I love your lady. I envy all you people who can paper piece.
BTW I do not like trying to figure out the words :(
Psst... Can I know were you got this pattern from please? I love it!
This is just wonderful and I really like how you included that tape measure. Thanks for sharing your talents with us today.
Amazing block! I'm envisioning a whole quilt of those ladies...each in a different color. Did you draw up the pattern or find it some where?

Oh My! how cute! I like this!
Dorothy is adorable. I had a cousin Dorothy "Dot" - she was a sweetie from NC. Thank you for taking time to participate and share. See it's still 88 in OKC - it was hot in Tulsa area again today, too! Is fall ever going to get here and stay? Thank you for participating and making this successful -
That is a wonderful block! I love all the details. The dots are great but I especially like that tape measure fabric - very cool. I think your photo is great - I always have a difficult time photographing orange for some reason.
Yes, do make your orange lady with the lips curved into smile even if it's 'Mona Lisa' style. After your wonderful work with this block, she should be mighty pleased to have been brought to life by a talented quilter.
You made your lady look quite awesome in her "orangeness" thanks for sharing and as for the Cathedral Window quilt on the bed, BEEEE-U-T-Ful!!
