Hooked on One Inch Squares!!!
Why Oh Why.... ??? !!! Another tedious journey (teee-jus jur-nee as the old church saints used to say) I am machine sewing One-Inch Squares.... reallly they are left over 2-inch squares from my Cathedral Window (hand-quiltin) and I sew and cut down to desired five inch square!!!
Add one five inch set to #2, #3 and #4.... there I have my larger square..... it will all go together beautifully.... some future year!!

Big Friday and Big Tuesday.... November 2012
I've entered.....now the waiting.....
The National Quilt Museum in Paducah, Kentucky invites your guild members to submit quilts to represent your group in a special juried regional exhibit called Quilts of the South Central US. We are inviting current guild members in a region comprised of Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas to submit quilts that represent their best work. We would like to have two images of each quilt by October 20, 2012, for the jury to select from for the exhibition. We encourage you on behalf of your guild to select representative quilts that are original designs or adaptations of a traditional design.
Quilts of the South Central US will highlight the work of quiltmakers who are the mainstream of quiltmaking today, and will open here at the National Quilt Museum in the spring of 2013. The jury will select approximately 18 quilts. Notification of acceptance into the exhibition will be by November 2, 2012.

Hand Quilting on the BED!
Now... for a quilt story.....
These are the two "unfinished quilts" of Dorothy Hughes !!! She was known as a wonderful/beautiful quilter..... I saw her "sewing on the bed"... she talked of her actual technique of pinning and reaching underneath... sitting in a small-kid chair - relieve the strain on her back!!! Pulling and rolling the quilt atop the bed until it was finished. On that day... I remember she had a heavy-wool antique quilt that was being repaired for her friend.
I've looked at the hand stitiching on the 9-patch quilt.... it really is rather ragged.... which makes me believe that she did not quilt it herself... but was finishing a top for a friend.
The other is a hand-stuffed-puffy dresden plate of just six large (24" blocks)....they were done separately. Each one is identical - perfect. But the border fabric is an add-on of a different off-white tone fabric ??? hmnnnnnn kind different.
Since it is unfinished ... I think I'll take the six dresdens and make them into pillow-tops !!! Since this is a memorial feeling I have for my BESTIE FRIEND's mother...... I hope it will be treasured as I give the pillows back to the family.
