Bquiltin is my Therapy

Many years of Dr Lucy McBride, newsletters
Four non-negotiables ….for good health /// Life more abundantly John 10:10.

S = Sleep. Our brains and bodies can’t function without rest. Most humans need 7-9 hours. Prioritize it.

T = Talk. To loved ones, friends, a therapist if you have one. Externalize your internal world. Tell your story.

E = Eat. We need protein, fiber, healthy fats, and whole grains. Satiety on a regular cadence is critical for our bodies and brains. Experience it.

M = Movement. Walk, stretch, dance wildly and embarrass your kids. Whatever you need to connect with your body, just do it.

Mitigate Despair-Learn to Quilt!

Serenity Prayer: “God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”

Advice from a friend (Lucy McBride).

In other words, mitigating despair requires:

  • Facing the fixed harsh realities of life (i.e. death, loss, grief, aging)

  • Coping with these realities as able (i.e. giving yourself permission to grieve; managing complex feelings with support as needed; prioritizing sleep, exercise, and good care of your body and mind.)

  • Directing our energy to the areas where we do have some control (i.e. relationships, hobbies, volunteer work, creating and enjoying beauty, leaning into joy.)
