How To Baby Lock

Here at my renewed Bquiltin Longarm Quilt Studio

I wondered if any other quilter had purchased a Coronet Baby Lock quilting machine.

So here is my How To/Tuesday posting of a 42" x 55" baby quilt.

On yesterday I picked up a baby quilt from a good friend. She is a math stickler and saves a dollar by making her quilts from a 44' cut of fabric backing.

IRON
The front and backing should be ironed by customer to remove any wrinkles. I smooth and straighten and steam iron .... and I start removing all stray threads.

LOADING
Find the exact middle of both ends of your quilt backing: Fold in half and mark the center with pins. Ideally seems not to happen to my easy going quilt friends -- that's because these ladies will apologize for only making the back and the batting (mind you!) about 3-4 inches larger than the quilt.

So it's an automatic that for my Baby Lock Coronet, I've cut a 9" double fold cotton fabric piece that will serve as my "RUNNER FABRIC".
      (1) I carefully line up the quilt back, batting and top on the floor area.
      (2) Then I attach my "runner fabric" with small safety pins at about two inches apart or so.
      (3) Smooth out again, then I roll up quilt gently to move and place on the Baby Lock
(4) On the back upper bar, roll and clamp the runner fabric -- eye the quilt top to be sure it is straght.
(5) When I'm sure the backing is taunt, that the batting is smooth.... the top fabric can be basted... starting at the center and working slowly (watch fingers) using the MANUAL 4inch baste stitch.

Coming of Age ~ Longarm quiltin designs

I am old and young..... a beautiful wrap-up for a woman of my likes! I am gaining experience and a sense of ease in learning to quilt the quilt !!! on my longarm machine

January was my first business service: A friend asked excitedly.... "My 90 year old auntie needs a quilt... we don't have ones from her old house..... and her birthday is next month. Would you make her a full size quilt?"

I have several unfinished quilt tops in my closet. It is quite refreshing to have my handiwork hanging and waiting for its fullfillment. I purchased my Baby Lock Coronet in December, so this was the perfect QUICK challenge. In a matter of about 10 days........... tah-dahhhhh!

Oh Scrap . . . My Very Own CHICKEN COOP BOM

I'm sharing the December beginnings BOM of a local Oklahoma Quilt shop that will create a pattern of cute little houses.

I am one that is always drawn to QUILT TWICE.... so I'm developing my very own set of houses that feature little hens -- roosters -- and baby chicks! My hometown/birthplace is Chickasha Oklahoma... thus my mom often called me a little "chic-a-dee". I'm sure I had the skinny legs hopping around the house as the only girl for a very long time.

So.... I'll fill my house pattern with the chickens~~

Hahaha this is my semi-formal foot attire.... my Christmas gift 2017 as I enter the sewing room each day....

It's so hard for me to follow perfectly a recipe or a pattern.... I'm using a snowflake "sky" pattern on a few of these houses.

. . . a little soft music in the background.... and another Christmas gift from my oldest daughter... a teacup of scented candles!!!

Thursday Thoughts on Long Arm Quilting

I am indeed delighted to begin a new path into my long arm quilting business adventure this upcoming year of 2017!

It all starts out the same way..... a bit of cutting, piecing and ironing,

This is a 60" x 60" Valentine Square quilt top that was one of my early (like 2007) UFO... Yes indeed. So, onto the long arm frame it is.

I have a three year old niece that needs her very only LOVE Blanket as a Christmas present!

Re- Put defined

This has to be my midnight word....!!!!   Re-putting..... re-investing..... to put in again!!!

It's the way I love my grandchildren!   And I have three birth children!   and three chosen children! The baby boy has my heart.   His sister was the shining star.... she was and is still my best friend! And there is the first-born.....   He is ir - replaceable!!!

I've been thinking of my grandmother Martha Bell Smith-Sipuel.   She loved us!

Long Arm Equals A Baby Lock 4me!

Although my sewing is back to its usual messiness.... with about 5 projects.... in process (I'm happy)

I've been a'pondering and a'lookin at our local BSewin dealer... at their Coronet long arm quilting machine.

remember.... the new quiltin projects I mentioned..... ahhhh ha ... I discovered for a first time visit to Yukon, Oklahoma. Even signed up for a BOM.... The ladies were really friendly. I've had several disappointing visits to quilt shops that felt like a closed society.... anti-friendly... anti-helping a black woman who loves quilting....

So... I certainly match kindness when it is genuine!!
