Friendship as Therapy for Quilters

Friends, Fabric, Laughter, and a Little Peace for the Soul

I think we all know how it goes.... a little bit of fabric, needle and thread, and time spent with good friends can make the world feel a bit lighter?

Quilting is good therapy! And I’m not just talking about the beautiful quilts we create. I’m talking about the joy that happens along the way—the conversations, the laughter, the shared stories, the encouragement, and those precious moments when we can simply be ourselves.

You see the joy and removal of stress.... in our eyes and in our smiles!

Quilting gives my hands something to do while my mind has room to breathe. The rhythm of cutting, piecing, pressing, and stitching can become a quiet kind of meditation. Sometimes I’m thinking through a challenge, sometimes remembering a special person, and sometimes I’m simply enjoying the feel of beautiful fabric passing through my hands.

And then there are the days when quilting is anything but quiet!

We laugh. We tell stories. We ask questions. We encourage one another when a block refuses to cooperate or a color combination takes an unexpected turn. We celebrate the perfect points, the bold experiments, and even the mistakes that teach us something new.

My quilting friends offer something that cannot be measured by the number of blocks completed or the yards of fabric used. My quilt friends provide companionship, understanding, inspiration, and a sense of belonging.

Each person arrives with a different story. Some days we come ready to create; other days, we may need a listening ear, a good laugh, or a gentle reminder that we are not alone.

The quilting room - Scissor Tales Quilt Guild --- our monthly meeting place has become a place where friendships grow stitch by stitch. We exchange ideas, share our talents, and learn from one another. Our differences become part of the beauty, just like the variety of fabrics in a well-loved scrap quilt.

Quilting is good therapy. Good for the hands, good for the heart, and good for the soul.

Until we meet around the quilting table again, keep creating, keep connecting, and keep letting the fabric speak!

With joy in every stitch,
