Ok… so this is kinda incredible — spaced-out gothic spider webs mixed with vibrant, exuberant colors? Such a bold, electric vibe! It’s like I’m weaving a whole universe into this quilt

Quilt Culture Musings

I discovered and I repeatedly connect with the sentiments of quilt artist Professor Tracy Vaughn-Manley.   

The many pictures and guild meetings illustrate a deepening sense of community between women working together, usually on one major quilt project. The meetings have provided a space for women to come together and not be reduced to employees only, mothers only or caregivers. 

The African American women in my friendship circle helps us to stay connected to our heritage, culture and even express messages on politically urgent issues that affect our communities messages.

Houston 2025 Class (Kit) and Lecture

 

 Hello Quilty Friends!

Last week, the announcement came out!  I am happy to say that I am one of the 91 talented professionals teaching this year during the 2025 Houston Quilt Festival! 

The 2025 Houston class catalogue won’t be available online until early May but follow along with me …. some of the classes fill on the first day!   I’ll give you plenty of notice when enrollment is announced.

 IMPORTANT NOTE:  The Houston Festival is earlier than usual in 2025. Classes start Monday October 6, Preview night is Wednesday October 8, the show runs Thursday-Sunday October 9-12, 2025.

I attended the 50^th Year celebration in Houston last year!  Now, I’m one of 17 quilters make this grand debut admist offerings of 244 classes and 25 lectures.   This year’s Houston showroom has a sampler sessions and a NEW SHOW with Ricky Tims in concert 2025! 

Below is the list of my class and the phenomenal lecture I will be presenting.

SATURDAY OCTOBER 11 @ 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM

CLASS:   STARDUST WONDER  (Look for a new color mixed for Houston class)

This is a stunning but nifty-quick paper piecing class on Saturday afternoon.  The class runs from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.  I’ve prepared a supply list and precut template/kit to guarantee your success!  Bernina is providing machines for this class. 

I look forward to sharing my Saturday Morning Lecture about the Bible Quilt created in 1886 by a sassy and classy African American woman of faith.

An Invitation to Join A Guild

 

As a Quilter – I am a Maker.  I believe I am making things matter.  It happens in a smile, or conversation – a comforting fleeting moment of meaning that we must nurture in others, if we are to have our friends catch fire and make an impact in our world. 

Did you know that sparks become flames.  And the flickering light of a fire can be so constructive, warm and calming. Just this simple meeting with others proves to be a really big part of the fun that quilting can bring into our lives.   I have to say that I’ve met some of the finest people ‘around the quilting frame.’

It is the social aspect of meeting with other people who have similar interests.  This is also one of the ways this art of quilting has been passed from generation to generation.

As an organized unit, the Scissor Tales Quilt Guilt (STQG) plans to organize trips, organize quilt shows, invite speakers for trunk shows, make things together for community charity, and promote improvement on various quilting techniques through workshops, as well as encouraging members to show their quilts. To me – and to anyone else who has caught ‘quilting fever’, guilds are indispensable.  I strongly encourage quilters either join a guild -- one that is local to them, or (as I did) even start one of your own where none exist.

I'm becoming consistent in the use of social media platforms to engage my target audience and steer them toward my website where they can buy my quilts and quilting accessories.  It's a great dialogue that I hope to generate with social media users to reinforce BQUILTIN STUDIO's presence in the market as well as the merits of joining Scissor Tales Quilt Guild.

 Hello today - Good Quilt Friends!

It's a great Tuesday.... really because it follows my day off.... my day on of free time to quilt.  The weather is still moody.... so good.  I'll go outside if its good for March... if Oklahoma wants to rain and try for storms.. then I'll quilt!

I like to eat, sleep, and breathe quilts, quilt blocks, magazines and quilting.  I check in weekly with my friends and family and I teach a quilt class two days a week.  I am truly inspired by fabric and a fabric sale.  Inspiration is everywhere and I smile daily.  

I'm sharing a bit more after my best friends welcomed their first granddaughter last year.

I knew I'd have to change courses in order to use the HEAT N BOND to cut out the applique letters for this little girl's name!!!!   So -- a few more days.   I really believe I'll be able to deliver this on Sunday to my friends.

 I’ve been tasked as a method of friends who ask and joyously send a first grandchild’s tiny booties and clothing to me in a brown box!!!!

Well. I’ve been a year in finding a rhythm… I prepped several items.. but couldn’t get to a layout   So I never miss a sale and she has WORD panels!!
