Pieced, Batting, Backing—-REPEAT

Bits n’ Pieces of the

Quilt  piecing process is my favorite part of making a quilt. Of course, I love the look of my finished quilt once I have gone through with all of the other steps, but quilt piecing techniques are my favorite!

What is a pieced block?

Piecing is done on the top layer of the quilt. It is assembling and stitching all of the smaller pieces of the fabric together to form a block, which will be joined with other blocks to form the top layer of the quilt.

Backing

The Quilt backing is the backside fabrics layer of a quilt sandwich. They can be made from large cuts of coordinating fabric (such as 44″-wide quilting cotton ) that are stitched together to fit your quilt, or they can be cut down from 90″ or 108″ cuts of quilting cotton that are specially designed for backing large projects. They can be simple and solid, or you can add strips and blocks.  For me-it’s a coordinated scrappy but classy look!

Batting

Batting type #1: Cotton – Cotton batting has long been a personal favorite of mine. Quilts made with cotton batting are warm, soft, and have a crinkly look after washing that is reminiscent of antique quilts—and that’s exactly why I love it!

Quiltin Motivation

finding motivation

Intrinsic motivation comes from within! It describes doing something for the inner satisfaction – for the feeling it cultivates within me

Extrinsic motivation describes behavior driven by external rewards, like praise or compensation.

  • What is my motivation in my upcoming projects in May and October 2023?

  • What might increase the intrinsic rewards for me?

  • What kind of external rewards do I enjoy or hope to get from doing my project?

Sew I Sewed.... Received First Customer Complaint (to my surprise)

I really consider each quilt a masterpiece... in the making.   My brain, body and my inner yearnings to start and finish a THINK OF BEAUTY.... MASTERFULLY.... BEAUTIFULLY !!!

So it should have been a raving success..... as I finished, folded, and presented my client her Thunder Quilt this week.  hmnnnn I sewed wrongly....  not so.... but customer was heard!

Please .... I share now... if you've been dumb-founded when a client goes on the attack....  she really is not herself,,, no knowing.... and misguided.   Home based business, hand-crafted, custom-design// quality cotton/threads/workmanship.  She was a referral.. highly rated by work of mouth in ringing my doorbell. The backside was her complaint.....!!!

So, we as quilters-we root for each other.  We remain kind.  We can more carefully choose our clients.  Should have sent her to JOURNEY's Commercial T-shirt Quilt Company... aaahhh ha!

I loved making this so much....21 shirts from her 10-year collection of Thunder!
 I took show-time photo's.   I'll post in a few minutes!!!

Life is Wonderful... none-the-less.... and all-the-more!!!!!

One Lovely Word,,,,,
