Drumroll for Harriet Powers 1837
I’ve always bee pleased with my younger depiction of Harriet (abt 48-50 yrs old). 1898 approx exhibiting her Bible Story Quilt in Athens GA. Her pride n joy… Telling her story! Her eyes are looking to the future … the future of Women…. The next generation of proud independent-self taught, highly
Skilled African American women!
I struggled with the eyes—-smile—and her expressions as Harriet later paid for her photography session—leaving a history for us to envision!

Quilt Me A Story #1
Early on, Quilts fulfilled a very utilitarian need— protecting us from the cold or providing warmth, and even healing and comfort for the sick
Geesch!!! I long for just a chance to see, handle gently and to photograph/document quilts of the 1800’s!! Quilts could be used as bed and door and window coverings or as a special wrapping for baby’s first hours of arrival!
Lamentations 2:22 It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.
