Quilts - Healing Medicine for the Soul

There's been a really keen and heartwarming interest in a recent Netflix short that shows the healing power of quilting, I;m sharing this the short documentary, The Quilters, which is a wonderful example of the saving grace of stitching the sometimes broken pieces of our souls.  Such creativity, an escape and a chance to share our humanity when this group of incarcerated men make birthday quilts for kids in foster care.

Take a  listen to Elizabeth Chappell's conversation with the the documentary's creator.

Why We Luv To Quilt

often ask myself “What is it that I really, really love about the process of making a quilt?

The making of a quilt is a way to straighten out the ragged edges in my life. I can't wait to awake and start again.... piecing. Peace. It's the combination of taking apart yardages of fabric and putting this into MY WAY of handling life.... forming a new thing. A thing can be tumultuous and look mixed up but it is now organized and squared-up. It may be humorous and silly. But the formation of a new thing and the quilted feel and colors sink deep into my soul! Now... it probably time to cook, clean, teach, hug and talk, read and write...... I sleep well. I look forward to another day of quiltin.....

Bquiltin' in my Studio.

Quilters around the globe..... now it's your turn. Wake up, Quilt a square, take a stitch of yard, or paint with your brush, or play you piano...... Sleep well. REPEAT

No Stress Quiltin’

Quilting is a Stress-Reliever

The soothing rhythm of stitching and the tactile experience of fabric can help to alleviate the pressures of daily life. The repetitive cutting of fabrics and putting each piece together divert our attention to the present moment, create a mindful focus towards our actions, and promote relaxation.

My cultural heart strings say DEI.    Yep.  This quilt pulls into alignment…. The hues and vibrant colors of my world.  It’s the night of Kamala’s acceptance speech 8-22-2024.   Don’t Boo —-VOTE!

Lessons on String Quilts

 Hello Dear Quilt Friends!

Yes I have ziplock backs full of my precise, clean and fresh leftover fabric pieces from maybe pre-Covid days!

So, I'm teaching class at my wellness center,,,, and a good many sewists and quilt folk are donating fabric!!!

What’s a girl like me to do🌺🌺🌺🌺???  Happy dilemma!

Lessons on String Quilts!

“Strings” are all those leftover fabric strips and pieces that float around everyone’s sewing room. String quilts are simply quilts made from your longer fabric scraps.

To make a string quilt, you start with a foundation fabric or foundation paper, then use an easy sew-and-flip technique to attach strips and scraps to the foundation until the scraps completely cover the foundation.

That’s all there is to it! There’s no fussy measuring, no templates to follow, no precision cutting, no pattern to worry about. The freedom to choose colors and run crooked a bit is my favorite part of making blocks!

Stay and visit again for my HOW-TO TUTORIAL!!!
