YES!  I quilt every day!  Be it in my thought process or in the up/down humming of my machine!  

I quilt every day.   

A Cuppa Coffee is brewing…I turn left to my sewing haven.  I quilt two-four hours and more… machine or by hand!   All day with diabetes breaks —Quiltin is my reward for finishing cleanup chores!  Barefoot stepping into my sewing room brings me an immediate sense of peace even though pieces of scrappy fabric, patterns and books abound!  It’s much like my ritual soak in a hot tub with scented candle lights…., then slipping between the sheets of my freshly made bed.

I am referencing a March 2024 (New Yorker) writing that I believe quiltin .. like exercise or cooking… is a vital activity for me —-it’s an activity that makes use of my hands, provides an achievable sense of mastery and control, and results in a beautiful-huggable textile reward.

Living Well ~ per the Lovely Lady Ida B. Wells -Barnett

Hello to my friends who follow bits and pieces of my life ....  Living Well as Bquiltin Blog

I felt a stir of excitement -- Ida Bell Wells-Barnett (b. July 1862... d. March 1931) was one of the founders of the NAACP.  She fought against prejudice and violence in America -- especially in the cause of WOMANHOOD!  

She was a Holly Springs, Mississippi girl.... her passing was in Chicago, IL. and her burial is the the famous Oak Woods Cemetery on Chicago's South Side.  Ida Wells died of kidney failure at the age of 68

Just as her (MOM - LIZZIE) ... parents were enslaved, Ida was freed by the Emancipation Proclamation during the American Civil War (1865).   

Ida and her family later lived in Memphis, TN until mob violence drove her out.  Moving about 60 miles further North - she and her siblings landed in Chicago, IL

The Nitty Gritty: a Blanket or a Quilt?

HI there... m'lady friends & guys!!!

How exactly . . . is a quilt different from a blanket?

Well, I'd say that its like two blankets sewn together with padding in between (sandwich).  The stitching that keeps the padding in place creates a pattern that makes for an added dimension of " catch-you-breath eye candy"

The bquiltin shows thru the top and bottom of the sandwich quilt -- and when I longarm stitch, it is an inviting pattern matched by color, swirls, symbols and even a narrative stitched into the quilt!!!
